A yarn shop for birds...
kind-of.
Hi, I'm Anastasia and I'm a wild bird rehabilitator! I'm licensed to rehab in the State of South Dakota and am currently working under a federally-licensed mentor to obtain my federal migratory bird rehabilitation permit.
(I'm also a Fiber Business Coach and former yarn dyer.)
Over the last few years, I've seen a lot of conversations around excess consumption in the fiber world, as well as conversations around how it's hard to find a good home for yarn that you never got around to using - afterall, a $27 skein of yarn can't just go to anybody!
Here, I'm proposing a solution. If you're willing to donate your yarn in the name of birds, I'm willing to find a home for that yarn that will appreciate it in the form of me selling it via this online shop.
As a rehabber, my needs are often many. Right now, in my neck of the woods of South Dakota, cases of Avian Influenza among birds are growing, which poses an enormous amount of risk to the entire bird population.
This year, I need a shed. A very large shed that I can place in my backyard and use for both quarantining new patients or providing additional predator-safe quarters for those I care for.
My hope is that this shop can cover those costs and beyond to continue to provide life-saving supplies and equipment.
There are many ways that you can help the birds if you don't have yarn to donate, and I'd recommend checking out my list of ideas here.
Please note that I am a lone wolf in my endeavors, and am not currently a 501c3 organization. In saying this, understand that any donations or assistance won't be considered a tax write-off. Maybe one day I'll get there!
In the meantime, I'd recommend subscribing to my newsletter where I'll fill you in on all the shop updates!
